Albany, NY – A widespread winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow across eastern New York, western Massachusetts, and southern Vermont on Tuesday, with travel conditions likely to deteriorate quickly during the morning and evening commutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 7 a.m. Tuesday to 1 a.m. Wednesday, with snowfall totals projected between 7 and 11 inches across the region. Areas included in the warning stretch from the Berkshires and the Capital Region to the southern Green Mountains.

Forecasters said snowfall rates could reach 0.5 to 1 inch per hour, particularly during the late afternoon and early evening. This timing is expected to significantly impact commuters across Albany, Pittsfield, Bennington, Saratoga Springs, Schenectady, and surrounding communities.

According to the NWS, roads—especially bridges and overpasses—may become slick and hazardous through the day. Officials warn that travel could become “difficult to impossible” as the storm intensifies Tuesday afternoon.

Moderate to heavy snow is anticipated to continue into Tuesday night before tapering off early Wednesday. Motorists who must travel are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and prepare for sudden drops in visibility.

The NWS also recommends keeping an emergency kit in vehicles, including water, food, and a flashlight, in case of unexpected delays or stoppages during the storm.

Residents across New York, Massachusetts, and Vermont should monitor updated forecasts and plan for delays throughout Tuesday.
