New York – Low gray clouds hang over Albany this morning while a chilly breeze slides through the Hudson Valley. The quiet start will shift quickly as a wet system approaches later today.
Roads remain mostly dry this morning, but clouds will linger across the Capital Region through midday. Temperatures sit near 36 degrees early, with afternoon highs climbing to about 51 degrees as winds increase across eastern New York.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, rain chances surge later today as a fast-moving disturbance moves across the state. Showers and isolated thunderstorms could develop this evening, with precipitation chances climbing near 90 percent before midnight.
Drivers across Interstate 87, Interstate 90, and the Adirondack Northway should plan for wet pavement and reduced visibility tonight. Patchy fog may also develop after rainfall moves through the region.
Meteorologists say rainfall amounts should remain light for most areas. However, brief heavier downpours could slow evening travel across Albany, Troy, and Schenectady.
Conditions improve quickly Sunday as clouds break and sunshine returns. Morning fog may linger briefly before clearing skies bring a calmer and brighter day across the Hudson Valley.
Then the warming trend arrives.
Sunshine dominates Monday with highs climbing near 62 degrees, followed by even warmer air Tuesday as temperatures approach 65 degrees across the Albany metro. That warmth continues midweek before another round of rain arrives by Wednesday.
Residents should also remember the Daylight Saving Time change early Sunday morning. Clocks move forward one hour at 2 a.m., bringing later sunsets as spring approaches.
Long-range patterns continue signaling above-normal temperatures across the Northeast heading into mid-March.
