Peoria County, IL – A missing 77-year-old man from New York was found dead in Peoria County, Illinois, following an extensive search involving multiple agencies.

John F. Dubaic, a resident of Green Island, New York, was reported missing by family members after leaving in his RV on July 13. The last contact with Dubaic occurred on July 15. On Tuesday, New York investigators provided the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office with a GPS location indicating where Dubaic’s RV had been on Cedar Bluff Road near Elmore in Peoria County.

According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, detectives utilized a drone to locate Dubaic’s RV in a remote area near Spoon River, where it was damaged by a fallen tree, suggesting it had been there since a recent storm.

An extensive search effort lead to a discovery around 5:00 p.m. Tuesday when search teams found Dubaic in the brush near the Spoon River. He was breathing but unresponsive. Despite CPR and life-saving efforts by first responders, Dubaic was pronounced dead on the scene by Brimfield Fire and OSF Lifeflight personnel.
