Schererville, IN – A New York man was arrested after allegedly leading police on a dangerous chase in a semi truck along US 30, culminating in numerous felony charges. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when officers responded to a threatening call regarding a westbound semi truck on US Highway 30 near Cline Avenue.
According to the Schererville Police Department, officers located the vehicle near Joliet Street and attempted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Sava Cejic of New York, allegedly refused to comply, leading police on a pursuit that continued onto US Highway 41. Despite multiple attempts to stop the truck, including the deployment of spike strips, Cejic allegedly struck a squad car and several other vehicles before finally coming to a stop just north of Main Street in Highland.
Cejic faces multiple charges in Lake County Court, including six counts of resisting law enforcement, one count of intimidation, one count of criminal recklessness, and nine counts of leaving the scene of an accident, all classified as felonies. Local law enforcement agencies were instrumental in the arrest, including the Schererville and Highland Police Departments, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.
