Albany, NY – Heat and humidity are pushing dangerous levels across much of eastern New York today, with “feels like” temperatures soaring to near 100 degrees in parts of the Hudson and Mohawk River Valleys.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a Heat Advisory remains in effect from 12 noon until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, for cities including Albany, Saratoga Springs, Glens Falls, and Amsterdam. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the upper 80s to low 90s, but oppressive humidity will make it feel significantly hotter, especially in urban areas and valleys.

The advisory covers several counties including Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, Rensselaer, Montgomery, and Greene, where residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. With heat indices forecast to range from 95 to 100 degrees, extended exposure could lead to heat illness.

Cooling centers are open across the Capital Region, and residents are encouraged to avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, use air conditioning when possible, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.

Relief may come late tonight as temperatures ease, but more summer heat is possible later this week. Additional advisories may be issued.
