Rochester, NY – The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents to make safety a top priority as children head out for Halloween festivities across the region tonight.

In a message to families, deputies urged trick-or-treaters to use sidewalks whenever possible, wear bright-colored costumes, and avoid anything that blocks their vision while walking between homes.

Parents are asked to accompany young children, inspect all candy for signs of tampering, and avoid homes without porch lights on. The Sheriff’s Office also warns children to never enter a home for treats and to stay aware of their surroundings throughout the evening.

“Be safe and have fun,” the department wrote in its Halloween post, wishing Monroe County families a “spooktacular” night.

The Sheriff’s Office said deputies will maintain patrols in neighborhoods throughout Rochester and surrounding towns to help ensure a safe evening for trick-or-treaters and motorists alike.
