Albany, N.Y. – Drivers across eastern New York should brace for a soggy Thursday afternoon, as thunderstorms are expected to develop by 2 p.m., potentially impacting travel along I-87 and surrounding routes.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, a 30% chance of showers in the morning will increase to 80% after midday on Thursday, with storms likely into the evening. Isolated downpours may lead to ponding on roads and reduced visibility during the evening commute. Rain totals could top a quarter inch in localized spots, especially where thunderstorms hit hardest.

Skies will begin to clear late Thursday night, leading into a drier and warmer Friday. A slight chance of storms returns Friday afternoon, but most of the day will be partly sunny with highs near 88°F. By Saturday, hot and mostly sunny conditions will dominate as highs push to 90°F — a trend that’s expected to hold through early next week.

Here’s the extended five-day forecast for Albany:

  • Thursday (July 10): Showers and storms after 2 p.m. High near 85°F. Rain could be heavy at times.
  • Friday (July 11): Partly sunny, slight storm chance after 2 p.m. High 88°F.
  • Saturday (July 12): Mostly sunny and hot. High near 90°F.
  • Sunday (July 13): Thunderstorm chance rises to 40% after 2 p.m. High near 90°F.
