Rensselaer, NY – Travelers across eastern New York are advised to exercise caution today as dense fog continues to affect visibility on major roadways, including I-87. The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended a Dense Fog Advisory until 8 a.m. Sunday, warning of visibility under a quarter-mile in some areas.
According to the NWS, the fog began overnight and is expected to persist through the early morning hours. Traffic cameras have shown reduced visibility along sections of I-87, particularly near Saugerties and Coxsackie. Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra time for travel.
Rain is also likely today, tapering off by early afternoon, with a high of 49°F. Tonight brings another round of rain, with heavier showers expected to develop before midnight and winds gusting up to 29 mph.
Looking ahead, Monday will be cloudy with morning showers and a high near 55°F. The New Year’s Eve forecast includes rain transitioning to snow in some areas, with temperatures dipping into the low 30s.
