Jamestown, N.Y. – Slow-moving thunderstorms could trigger flash flooding across western New York Monday afternoon and evening, with Jamestown and Olean under a Flood Watch until 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a very moist airmass is fueling heavy downpours across Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties. Any area hit by repeated thunderstorms faces a heightened risk of flooding, especially near rivers, creeks, and poor-drainage zones.

Localized rainfall rates could overwhelm storm drains and swell waterways, impacting routes like Route 62 and sections of I-86 near Salamanca. Residents in flood-prone zones—particularly in valley communities—should remain alert and prepare to move to higher ground if conditions worsen.

Officials urge drivers to avoid water-covered roads and never attempt to cross flooded areas. Homes with basements in low-lying areas should secure valuables and have sump pumps ready in case of rapid water rise.

While rainfall is expected to taper overnight, additional warnings may be issued if storms persist. Stay tuned for updates through the evening.
