Binghamton, NY – Warm temperatures and gusty winds are accelerating snowmelt across Oneida County, increasing the risk of flooding in streams and rivers, particularly in the Tug Hill region. Additional rainfall this afternoon is expected to worsen runoff, potentially causing localized flooding through tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a significant portion of the remaining snowpack will melt by evening, releasing excess water into creeks and streams that drain into the Mohawk River and Fish Creek. Areas upstream of Delta Lake, including Sylvan Beach, are especially vulnerable to flooding.

Forecasts indicate wind gusts up to 49 mph in parts of Central New York, further contributing to rapid melting. Residents in low-lying areas should prepare for potential flooding, monitor local updates, and avoid traveling through flooded roads.

Gusty winds and isolated thunderstorms are also expected throughout the region today, creating additional hazards. Officials urge residents to remain alert as conditions develop.
