Binghamton, NY – Heavy rain and thunderstorms could drench parts of New York’s Southern Tier and Catskills today, triggering flash flooding and possible severe storms through 8 p.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Flash Flood Watch is in effect from noon through the evening hours for much of the region, including Broome, Delaware, Otsego, Sullivan, and Tioga counties, as well as parts of northeast Pennsylvania. A slow-moving cold front from the northwest will spark repeated rounds of storms capable of dropping 1–2 inches of rain per hour, with isolated totals exceeding 4 inches.

Communities such as Binghamton, Oneonta, Monticello, and Towanda, PA could face rapid rises in creeks and streams, street flooding, and poor drainage issues. This comes on top of Sunday’s soaking rains, increasing the flood risk.

Some storms may also become severe, producing damaging winds and hail, especially in areas highlighted by the Storm Prediction Center’s Level 1 Marginal Risk zone.

Drivers should avoid flooded roads, monitor alerts, and be ready for rapidly changing conditions. Power outages and delays to outdoor events are also possible.

Flash Flood Watches remain in effect through 8 p.m., with more heat and humidity building Tuesday and Wednesday.
