Binghamton, NY – A dense fog advisory is impacting much of Broome County, including Binghamton, causing hazardous driving conditions on major roadways like I-81 and NY-17. The advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. today. Commuters and travelers are urged to reduce speed and use low-beam headlights to navigate visibility that could drop below a quarter mile.

According to the National Weather Service, visibility across the area is extremely limited. This includes Broome, Chemung, and surrounding counties, where dense fog is expected to clear by mid-morning. Drivers should exercise caution, especially along I-81, as low visibility increases the risk of accidents during peak commuting hours. Those traveling on NY-17 should also be prepared for slow-moving traffic and sudden stops.

By the afternoon, skies are expected to clear, with temperatures reaching a high of 72°F. However, patchy fog could return overnight. Looking ahead, Friday will bring mostly sunny conditions with a high near 75°F, providing relief from the fog. There’s a slight chance of showers late Friday night, especially in rural areas. The weekend looks clear and sunny with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s, making it perfect for outdoor plans.
