NEW YORK – After a night of gusty winds and falling temperatures, the National Weather Service in New York has issued a Frost Advisory from midnight tonight through 7 a.m. Friday for parts of southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and southeast New York, including the Long Island region.

Forecasters warn that overnight lows near 32°F will allow widespread frost to develop, especially in inland valleys and sheltered areas. “Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Unprotected plants may be killed,” the advisory states.

Before the cold settles in, a Wind Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Thursday, with northwest winds 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 55 mph still buffeting parts of Fairfield, Bergen, and Suffolk Counties. Localized gusts may have reached near 60 mph along exposed coastal zones overnight.

By this evening, winds will diminish sharply as skies clear—ideal conditions for frost formation. Gardeners and homeowners should cover tender plants, disconnect hoses, and protect outdoor faucets ahead of the chill. Residents with rooftop or balcony plants in urban areas should take similar precautions.

Friday morning’s frost will mark the first of the season for many coastal communities, though temperatures are expected to rebound into the upper 40s and 50s by afternoon.
