Binghamton, NY – Temperatures across Central New York and Northeast Pennsylvania have plunged 20 to 30 degrees in just 24 hours, ushering in a frigid start to the weekend with highs only in the 20s for most of the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, Friday will stay dry under high pressure, though some clouds could arrive later in the day, especially across northeast Pennsylvania. Afternoon highs will range from 20°F in Boonville to around 30°F near Wilkes-Barre and Elmira, with most areas running 10 to 20 degrees below normal for early December.
Forecasters warn that the sharp temperature drop could create hazardous conditions for pets, pipes, and those spending time outdoors. Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure, keep pets warm and dry, and ensure they have plenty of food and water as dehydration risks rise in cold weather.
Despite the chill, no precipitation is expected today, and conditions will remain calm before temperatures slowly moderate over the weekend.
