New York, NY – Bitter cold is set to grip the New York region through the weekend, with temperatures dropping well below normal, according to the National Weather Service in New York. Highs on Friday and again Monday may not climb above the freezing mark in several areas, including parts of New Jersey, Connecticut, and the Hudson Valley.
Normally, early December highs reach the upper 40s across the metro area, but this upcoming stretch will bring daytime highs closer to the mid-30s. The coldest air is expected early Friday morning, when low temperatures could fall into the teens — potentially breaking records in some locations.
The National Weather Service’s extended outlook shows this cold pattern persisting through midweek, with only gradual moderation by Tuesday or Wednesday. The forecast map highlights expected highs near 30°F to 34°F across New York City, Newark, and Bridgeport, with even colder readings in upstate and inland areas.
Residents are urged to bundle up, protect pets and pipes, and be cautious of icy patches on sidewalks and roadways, especially during morning commutes.
