New York, NY – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for New York City, northern New Jersey, and southern Connecticut from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, with a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain expected to create hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), precipitation will begin as snow before transitioning to a wintry mix. Up to two inches of snow and a light glaze of iceare expected, making Thursday morning’s commute slippery and dangerous.

Impacted Areas and Timing

New York City & Long Island(Manhattan, Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, Nassau, and Suffolk counties) – Snow accumulation near one inch, with ice forming before temperatures rise above freezing by late morning.

Northeast New Jersey(Hudson, Essex, Union, Bergen, and Passaic counties) – Up to two inchesof snow and a light ice glaze, transitioning to rain by early afternoon.

Southern Connecticut & Lower Hudson Valley(Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex, and Westchester counties) – Up to two inches of snowand 0.1 inches of ice, with temperatures warming by early afternoon.

Safety Precautions

Motorists should prepare for slippery roads and reduced visibility, especially between 4 a.m. and 11 a.m. when conditions will be most hazardous. Commuters are advised to allow extra travel time and check local Department of Transportation updates before heading out.

Temperatures will rise throughout the day, changing the precipitation to rain by the afternoon.
