New York, NY – The National Weather Service in New York reports that a coastal low will move south and east of the area Tuesday into Tuesday night, potentially bringing the first accumulating snowfall of the season to parts of the Lower Hudson Valley and interior southern New England.

According to the forecast, 3 to 5 inches of snow are possible across Orange, Putnam, and western Passaic counties, with 1 to 2 inches expected for much of Connecticut, northern New Jersey, and the rest of the Lower Hudson Valley. The heaviest snowfall is forecast north and west of New York City, where temperatures will remain cold enough for snow to accumulate.

Along the coast—including New York City, Long Island, and coastal Connecticut—precipitation is expected to fall mainly as rain, though brief periods of snow are possible early Tuesday.

Forecasters note high uncertainty in the storm’s exact track, which could shift heavier snow farther south or reduce totals if warmer air dominates. Updates will be issued Sunday as confidence improves.

Residents should plan for slower commutes Tuesday morning, especially across northwest suburbs, and stay updated via weather.gov/nyc.
