New York, NY – A sunny start Wednesday will give way to showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, bringing an end to the city’s recent stretch of dry weather. Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s and lower 90s, with the warmest readings expected in parts of northern New Jersey, the Hudson Valley, and interior Connecticut.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, winds will run south to southwest at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, helping fuel instability before storms arrive. The highest rain chances will be from mid-afternoon through the evening commute, potentially impacting travel on major routes such as I-95, the Long Island Expressway, and the George Washington Bridge approaches.

Localized downpours may cause brief street flooding in low-lying areas, especially where storm drains are clogged with debris. Lightning will also be a hazard, making outdoor sports and events risky after 3 p.m.

Residents are advised to monitor conditions and be prepared to move indoors quickly if storms approach. More showers could linger into early Thursday before clearing returns.
