New York, NY – Drivers across the Tri-State area are waking up to dense fog Friday morning, with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less in some locations and creating dangerous travel conditions during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service, patchy dense fog has developed across southern New York, northern New Jersey, and much of Connecticut, and is expected to persist through at least 9 a.m. Friday. The affected area includes Manhattan, the Bronx, Long Island, Passaic and Bergen counties in New Jersey, and Fairfield County in Connecticut.

Motorists on I-95, the Garden State Parkway, and the Long Island Expressway should be prepared for sudden drops in visibility. Transportation officials recommend using low beam headlights, slowing down, and leaving extra space between vehicles. Rapid visibility changes could occur within a single block, especially in coastal and low-lying areas.

This fog event comes as moisture lingers from overnight humidity, trapping cool air at the surface and creating ideal conditions for dense fog. While no major delays have been reported as of 6 a.m., travelers should check traffic apps and allow extra time.

Fog is expected to lift by mid-morning, but drivers should remain alert for changing conditions. Another advisory could be issued if visibility worsens.
