New York, NY – The National Weather Service in New York City has issued a Freeze Warning for the city and surrounding metro area, effective from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday, as temperatures fall to near freezing overnight.

After a mild start to the week, cold northwest winds will usher in a sharp drop in temperatures late Monday, with overnight lows near 35°F in the city and freezing conditions in outlying suburbs. Wind chills could dip into the upper 20s, making for a chilly start to Veterans Day.

According to the NWS, the freeze could damage unprotected plants, burst outdoor pipes, and impact early morning commuters with frosty conditions on bridges and overpasses.

Tuesday will bring mostly sunny and breezy weather, with afternoon highs near 44°F, but another round of cold nights is expected midweek before a gradual warm-up toward Thursday.

Residents are urged to cover outdoor plants, disconnect hoses, and bring pets indoors overnight.
