New York, NY – An Air Quality Health Advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. Sunday for New York City and surrounding counties, as ozone levels rise to unhealthy ranges. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation warns that sensitive groups, including children, older adults, and people with asthma or heart disease, should avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the alert.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday will bring more summer heat, with highs near 85°F under mostly sunny skies. Winds will stay light, offering little relief from the warmth. While air quality should improve by Monday, the heat will linger into midweek, with highs climbing toward 87°F on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Sunday’s poor air quality is driven by ground-level ozone, which forms on hot, sunny days when emissions from vehicles and industry react in the atmosphere. Residents are urged to limit driving, postpone outdoor workouts, and keep windows closed during peak afternoon hours.

Conditions will remain mostly dry through Tuesday, making it an ideal stretch for outdoor dining or local events once air quality improves. The next rain chance arrives Wednesday night with scattered showers.

Five Day New York, NY Forecast:

  • Sunday: Sunny, ozone alert until 11 p.m. High 83°F, low 70°F
  • Monday: Mostly sunny and warm. High 85°F, low 72°F
  • Tuesday: Sunny and hot. High 86°F, low 76°F
  • Wednesday: Mostly sunny, slight evening shower chance. High 87°F, low 77°F
  • Thursday: Partly sunny with scattered showers. High 85°F, low 74°F
