New York City, New York – Drivers across New York City and Long Island should prepare for slippery travel Sunday as accumulating snow moves in late morning and continues into the evening, creating hazardous road conditions during peak travel hours.
According to the National Weather Service office in New York, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 10 a.m. through 10 p.m. Sunday for the city, Suffolk County, and much of southern Connecticut. Snowfall totals between 2 and 4 inches are expected, with the steadiest snow falling from midday through early evening.
Across New York City, untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses could quickly become slick, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. In southeast New York, Suffolk County communities from Huntington to Riverhead may see snow accumulate faster, making local roads difficult to navigate. Southern Connecticut, including New Haven, Middlesex, and New London counties, faces similar impacts with reduced visibility at times.
Transportation agencies urge drivers to slow down, increase following distance, and allow extra time for travel. Those who can delay non-essential trips Sunday afternoon are encouraged to do so. Crews are expected to monitor conditions and treat major roadways as snowfall develops.
The advisory is set to expire late Sunday night, but lingering slick spots may remain into early Monday. Additional updates or extensions are possible if snow persists longer than expected.
