New York City, NY – A sharp 15 to 20-degree cooldown will take hold across the tri-state area by Saturday afternoon, cutting temperatures from near 60°F midweek to the low-to-mid 40s and changing how the region feels heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, highs will peak near 65 to 68°F Thursday afternoon across much of New Jersey and New York City before a cold front moves through Friday, dropping temperatures into the mid-50s. By Saturday between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m., highs will struggle to reach 44°F in NYC, 42°F on Long Island, and near 41°F across coastal Connecticut.

The shift will be noticeable along major corridors including I-95, the Long Island Expressway, and the Garden State Parkway, where cooler air and a stiff breeze could make conditions feel even colder during peak travel hours. Cities like Newark and New Brunswick fall from around 60°F Friday to the mid-40s Saturday, while White Plains and Bridgeport settle near 43°F.

Commuters should plan for a colder start Saturday morning, with temperatures in the upper 30s to near 40°F by 7 a.m. Light layers and jackets will be necessary after several mild days, especially for early errands or outdoor events.

This cooldown will hold through the weekend, and additional updates may follow if the cold air lingers into early next week.
