New York City, NY – Confidence is increasing that a winter storm could bring impactful snow to New York City and the surrounding metro area from Sunday into Monday.

According to the National Weather Service New York office, snow may begin as early as Sunday morning and continue into a portion of Monday, with the potential for moderate to heavy snowfall across parts of the region. While exact totals remain uncertain, probabilistic guidance shows a notable chance for at least 6 inches of snow in and around the city.

Forecasters emphasized that uncertainty remains regarding where the heaviest snow band sets up, but confidence is high that temperatures will remain well below freezing through the event and into early next week. This raises the likelihood that any snow that falls will accumulate efficiently and linger on roadways.

Travel impacts are possible on Interstate 95, Interstate 80, Interstate 87, the FDR Drive, and the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, as well as major bridges and elevated roadways. If heavier snowfall develops, slower travel and hazardous driving conditions are likely, especially during peak travel periods.

The National Weather Service also noted high confidence in cold conditions beginning Friday night, which could allow snow and ice to persist even after precipitation ends, extending impacts into Monday.

Residents, commuters, and travelers are encouraged to monitor forecast updates over the next several days, review weekend travel plans, and prepare for the possibility of winter weather disruptions across the New York City area.
