New York City, New York – A sharp drop in temperatures is setting the stage for uncomfortable and potentially hazardous travel conditions across New York City as bitter cold settles in Monday night. Wind chills falling into the single digits are expected to create icy spots on untreated roads, especially during the overnight and early morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, wind chills will dip into the single digits both Monday night and again Tuesday night as colder air spreads across the region. Officials say the prolonged cold will lead to frigid mornings through midweek, increasing the chance for refreezing on bridges, overpasses, and shaded roadways.

Major routes including the FDR Drive, Cross Bronx Expressway, Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, and George Washington Bridge approaches are most vulnerable late at night and before sunrise. City officials urge drivers to slow down, allow extra braking distance, and remain alert for black ice, particularly where pavement appears dry. Pedestrians are advised to dress in layers and limit time outdoors when possible.

Cold conditions persist through midweek with little overnight relief. While no major snow is expected, continued cold may prompt additional advisories as the week unfolds.
