New York City, New York — A cold night is expected across New York City and the surrounding metro area before temperatures rebound modestly on Wednesday.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in New York, overnight low temperatures Tuesday night are forecast to fall to around 14°F in New York City, with colder readings inland and across higher elevations north and west of the city. Subfreezing temperatures will persist through the early Wednesday morning commute.

By Wednesday afternoon, temperatures are expected to recover somewhat. Highs in New York City are forecast to reach around 37°F, while nearby coastal locations on Long Island may see highs closer to 40–42°F. Inland areas north of the city are expected to remain cooler, generally in the upper 20s to lower 30s.

The temperature gradient reflects lingering cold air inland while milder marine air moderates conditions closer to the coast. Despite the daytime warm-up, temperatures will remain below normal for late January across much of the region.

No significant precipitation is expected during this period, but cold-sensitive residents are advised to use caution during the early morning hours due to lingering icy patches on untreated surfaces.

Forecasters note that additional temperature fluctuations are possible later this week as weather patterns remain active across the Northeast.

The sharp overnight chill followed by a daytime rebound may affect early commuters and students traveling Wednesday morning.
