New York City, NY – Snowfall totals across New York City reached about 8 to 12 inches following the weekend winter storm, with road impacts continuing into Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service New York, snowfall totals along the coast, including New York City, were a few inches lower than interior locations due to a longer period of sleet during the storm. Interior parts of the region reported significantly higher totals, while coastal areas remained mostly in the single-digit to low double-digit range.
The National Weather Service said many roads may still be impacted Monday morning, with snow-packed surfaces and residual slick spots possible, particularly on untreated streets and secondary roads. Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra travel time.
While snowfall has ended, forecasters warned the region is entering a very cold stretch of weather. Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing through the upcoming weekend, which may slow snowmelt and allow icy conditions to persist.
Snowfall analysis maps released by the National Weather Service show widespread accumulation across the New York City metro area, with heavier totals north and west of the city. Officials emphasized that even where totals were lower, the combination of snow, sleet, and cold temperatures continues to pose travel concerns.
Commuters, students, and early-shift workers heading out Monday may notice narrower roadways, ongoing plowing operations, and reduced parking availability due to snowbanks.
Residents are advised to dress for prolonged cold, use caution on sidewalks, and monitor official forecasts for updates as the cold pattern settles in.
