New York City, NY – Dense fog across the New York City region Sunday morning is reducing visibility and slowing travel.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, fog is widespread across much of the area early Sunday as a warm front lifts north through the region.

Meteorologists said the foggy conditions are expected to gradually improve later in the morning as the warm front moves out. However, the change in air masses will bring periods of rain later this morning and into the early afternoon.

The rain is associated with a cold front moving through the Northeast, which will help clear out the moisture responsible for the fog. Forecasters say conditions should turn drier later in the day after the front passes.

Sunday afternoon temperatures are expected to reach the upper 50s to mid-60s across much of the region, including areas of the Hudson Valley, New York City, Long Island, and southern Connecticut. Coastal areas may remain cooler, with highs closer to the upper 40s and low 50s.

Drivers are urged to use caution during the morning commute, as fog can significantly reduce visibility on highways, bridges, and coastal roadways. Visibility conditions can change quickly in dense fog.

The National Weather Service recommends using low-beam headlights and increasing following distance when driving in foggy conditions.

For many students, service workers, and early commuters heading out Sunday morning, the fog could slow travel before conditions improve later in the day.

The weather service said skies should gradually clear after the rain exits, bringing drier conditions to end the day across the region.
