New York City, NY – Bitterly cold conditions are gripping New York City and the surrounding region as the workweek begins, with dangerous wind chills expected to persist through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, Monday morning wind chill values will be near 0 degrees along the coast, including much of New York City, while sub-zero wind chills are expected across inland portions of the region. Cold northwest winds combined with frigid air temperatures are making it feel significantly colder than the thermometer indicates.

In New York City, wind chills early Monday are expected to hover around 0 degrees, particularly during the pre-dawn and early commute hours. Areas north and west of the city, including parts of the Hudson Valley and interior Connecticut, could see wind chills drop to -5 degrees or lower.

Forecasters say the coldest conditions will occur between midnight and mid-morning Monday, before winds gradually ease later in the day. Despite sunshine returning, temperatures will struggle to recover, keeping conditions cold throughout the afternoon.

Officials urge residents to dress in layers, cover exposed skin, and limit prolonged outdoor exposure, especially during the morning hours. Frostbite can develop quickly when wind chills drop near or below zero. Parents are encouraged to ensure children waiting for buses are properly bundled.

Drivers should also be cautious of icy patches on bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads, particularly in areas that saw recent precipitation or melting snow refreeze overnight.

Pet owners are reminded to limit time outdoors for animals and provide warm shelter. Residents should also check on elderly neighbors and those without adequate heating during the cold snap.

While temperatures are expected to moderate slightly later this week, forecasters say Monday will remain one of the coldest days so far this season for the New York City region. Stay tuned to local weather updates as cold conditions continue.
