Binghamton, NY – Residents across Central New York, the Catskills, and the Southern Tier should prepare for unsettled weather over the next 48 hours as rain returns tonight and continues into Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, skies will remain cloudy Wednesday with warm temperatures and light winds. Showers are expected to develop late Wednesday evening and persist into Thursday as a warm front moves across the region.

Forecasters noted that rainfall totals could reach between 1 and 1.5 inches in many locations, including Binghamton, Elmira, Cortland, and Syracuse. Widespread fog will also dissipate by mid-morning Wednesday, adding to travel concerns early in the day.

The greater threat arrives Thursday afternoon, when a cold front pushes through New York. The Weather Service warns there is a Marginal Risk for severe thunderstorms in the region, especially across Northeastern Pennsylvania, the Catskills, and the eastern Southern Tier. Strong to damaging winds are the primary hazard with these storms.

Rain showers are expected to taper later Thursday night as the front exits the area. Drivers and commuters should monitor conditions, as wet roads and periods of poor visibility may cause delays.
