Binghamton, NY – Strong winds and subzero wind chills will sweep through New York on Monday, creating hazardous conditions across the region. Forecasters warn of gusts up to 60 mph and dangerously cold wind chills as an Arctic front pushes in.

According to the National Weather Service, a High Wind Watch remains in effect from Sunday afternoon through Monday. Wind gusts could topple trees and power lines, leading to power outages. A Winter Weather Advisory also remains active until 9 a.m. Sunday, with freezing rain and snow accumulations expected to make travel treacherous.

By Monday, temperatures will reach only the low 20s, but wind chills could drop to between -5°F and -20°F overnight. The cold snap will persist through the week, with highs struggling to climb above freezing.

Drivers should exercise caution, especially on Interstate 81 and Route 17, as icy conditions could develop. Residents should secure loose outdoor objects and prepare for possible power disruptions.

Looking ahead, Tuesday will be mostly sunny but frigid, with highs near 19°F. Snow showers return Wednesday and Thursday, bringing additional travel concerns. Stay tuned for updates and safety advisories.
