Binghamton, NY – Residents in Binghamton and across upstate New York are preparing for heavy rainfall and potential flash flooding as Tropical Storm Debby approaches. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Binghamton issued warnings indicating that the storm could bring significant rain starting Friday and continuing through Saturday.
According to the NWS, tropical moisture from Debby will interact with an approaching upper trough and surface cold front later this week. This combination is expected to result in heavy rainfall, with the heaviest amounts dependent on the storm’s track and intensity. Flash flooding and river flooding are major concerns, particularly for areas with already saturated soils from recent rainfall.
The Excessive Rainfall Outlook highlights a moderate to high risk of flash flooding on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the heaviest rain is predicted to impact central and western New York, while by Saturday, the risk shifts towards the eastern parts of the state. Residents are urged to stay updated with weather forecasts and be prepared for potential flooding.
In addition to heavy rain, Binghamton’s weather forecast shows a significant drop in temperatures. Today is partly cloudy with a high of 72°F. Rain is expected Thursday, with a 55% chance and a high of 71°F. The heaviest rain is predicted on Friday, with an 80% chance and temperatures around 76°F. The weekend will bring some relief with sunny skies and highs of 76°F on both Saturday and Sunday.
