Albany, NY – A late-season bout of freezing rain is making roads dangerously slick across parts of eastern New York and southern Vermont this morning, prompting a Winter Weather Advisory in both states until 11 a.m. EDT. Commuters are being urged to use extreme caution during the morning drive.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany and Burlington, a wintry mix is spreading across the region, depositing a light glaze of ice along roadways, sidewalks, and bridges. Some areas may also see up to one inch of snow accumulation before the system moves out.

Affected areas in New York include Northern Herkimer, Hamilton, Saratoga, Warren, and Fulton counties. In Vermont, Bennington County and the Green Mountains region are under the advisory. Wind gusts of up to 35 mph may lead to isolated power outages as tree limbs collect ice.

The hazardous mix is expected to transition to plain rain by 7 a.m. in northern New York and around 9 a.m. in Vermont, improving conditions gradually through the morning.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel until the advisory expires. For up-to-date road conditions, visit 511ny.org in New York or newengland511.org in Vermont.
