New York, NY – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for parts of New York and New Jersey, with ice and light snow creating dangerous travel conditions early Monday.
The National Weather Service reported ice accumulations of a light glaze and snow totaling up to two inches in areas like Orange and Western Passaic counties. Other impacted areas include Northern Westchester, Putnam, and Rockland counties in New York. The advisory is expected to expire at 11 a.m.
Commuters in both states are being warned to prepare for slippery roads and extended travel times during the morning rush. Transportation officials urge drivers to slow down, maintain safe distances, and check for real-time updates. Major roads, including portions of I-287 and Route 17, have reported icy patches.
Residents in affected areas are advised to use caution on sidewalks and driveways, as untreated surfaces may remain hazardous. Local officials encourage avoiding non-essential travel until conditions improve later in the day.
