Cincinnati, OH – Dry conditions are set to intensify across the Ohio Valley this week as forecasters warn of little to no rain in the region. While Tropical Storm Imelda will bring light showers to the New River basin over the next couple of days, the rest of the Ohio Valley is expected to remain dry through the first week of October.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, rainfall from Imelda will be limited to parts of West Virginia, leaving most of Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and surrounding areas without meaningful precipitation. A seven-day forecast map released Monday shows the majority of the valley under zero rainfall projections through October 6, 2025.

Officials warn that ongoing drought conditions, already affecting water levels and agriculture across the valley, are likely to worsen. Persistent dryness has lowered river flows, stressed crops, and raised concerns for communities dependent on consistent rainfall. Without significant precipitation in the coming days, both short- and long-term impacts may expand.

The Ohio Valley region has faced prolonged dry weather patterns throughout September, with many areas reporting below-average rainfall. Forecast models suggest that the dry stretch will continue, amplifying drought concerns heading into October.

Residents are encouraged to conserve water where possible and monitor updates from local agencies. Farmers and those working in agriculture may be particularly affected as fields dry further during the critical harvest period.

The National Weather Service advises that no widespread storm systems are expected to bring relief in the near term, leaving Imelda’s limited showers confined to far eastern portions of the basin.
