NEW ORLEANS, La. – Early morning clouds hang low across the Crescent City, wrapping the skyline in a soft haze as calm winds drift off the lake. After a stretch of warm, quiet days, changes are coming fast—Friday will bring the region’s next round of showers and storms before crisp, dry air sweeps in for the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, patchy clouds linger through this morning before rain chances rise sharply by late Thursday night. Showers and a few thunderstorms are expected to develop after sunrise Friday, most active along I-10 and U.S. 90 from Slidell to Houma. A few cells could produce gusty winds near 30 mph and brief downpours, though widespread severe weather is not expected.
Rain tapers quickly by Friday evening, setting up a beautiful start to the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will feature plenty of sunshine with highs in the upper 70s to near 80°F, ideal for early Veterans Day events, outdoor markets, and football tailgates. As winds turn north by late Sunday, cooler air will finally slide into the region, dropping lows into the 40s by early Monday morning.
The pattern ahead looks pleasant but short-lived, with a larger November cold snap possible by midweek across the Deep South. For now, residents can expect one more round of muggy warmth and a few rumbles of thunder before Louisiana settles into its first true fall weekend of the season.
