New Orleans, Louisiana – A spring deluge is set to drench southeast Louisiana with heavy rainfall and strong storms through Wednesday night, triggering a Flood Watch that could significantly impact travel across the New Orleans metro area.

According to the National Weather Service, widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected to intensify late Tuesday night and continue through at least Thursday morning, with rain chances peaking at 90% on Wednesday. The most intense rainfall is likely late Wednesday into the overnight hours. Localized flooding is possible, especially along low-lying roads and major corridors like I-10 and US-90.

The Flood Watch remains in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday, with 1 to 3 inches of rain possible in some areas. Storms may produce brief gusty winds and isolated downpours. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roadways, especially during the Wednesday morning and evening commute.

Spring weather hazards will persist through the weekend. Thunderstorm chances linger into Thursday night and Friday, with lower—but still notable—rain chances (60% and 50% respectively).

By Saturday, New Orleans may finally dry out, with just a slight chance of afternoon storms and highs near 80°F. Sunday and Monday look sunnier and calmer, with pleasant highs in the upper 70s and low 80s.

Prepare now: Charge devices, monitor local alerts, and stay off roads during downpours. Another update is expected early Wednesday if additional warnings are issued.
