New Orleans, Louisiana – Storms and steamy heat will define the start of the week across southeast Louisiana, with Monday shaping up to be both muggy and unstable. Commuters along US-90 and throughout the New Orleans metro could encounter brief but disruptive thunderstorms after noon, with skies staying mostly sunny before the rain moves in.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms developing after midday Monday, especially between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Highs will climb to around 91°F, with light northeast winds shifting to the southeast. Roads may become slick during afternoon downpours, so drivers are urged to use caution, especially in low-lying or flood-prone areas.

The threat for afternoon pop-up storms lingers into Tuesday and Thursday, while overnight hours remain mostly clear. Heat index values will continue to push into the upper 90s at times, so staying hydrated and limiting strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours is advised.

While the forecast doesn’t call for widespread severe weather, isolated lightning, gusty winds, and brief heavy rain could impact outdoor plans across Jefferson Parish, Orleans Parish, and the West Bank region. Residents should monitor local alerts and check for updates before heading out.
