New Orleans, Louisiana – Storms could interrupt Friday plans across southeast Louisiana as afternoon heat stirs up a chance of strong thunderstorms by 4 p.m., with some areas facing heavy rain into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, a 30% chance of showers and storms will develop Friday afternoon, mainly after 4 p.m., with temperatures topping out near 88°F. The risk continues into Friday night, especially before 7 p.m., when some storms may produce heavy rainfall and localized gusty winds.

Communities from Gretna to Metairie could see brief downpours during peak evening hours, potentially slowing traffic on I-10 and local highways. While no widespread flooding is expected, isolated road ponding or slick conditions may develop during any bursts of heavy rain. Winds will remain light, shifting west to northwest around 5 mph.

Saturday clears out quickly, bringing mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid-80s. Sunday looks even warmer with highs near 86°F and calm winds. No major weather concerns are expected over the weekend.

If you’re planning outdoor events Friday evening, it’s smart to have backup indoor options. Another round of storms could arrive by Wednesday.
