New Orleans, LA – Hazardous marine conditions continue across southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi waters as gale-force winds and high seas persist through early Thursday. The National Weather Service in New Orleans reports that a Gale Warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. CDT Thursday, Oct. 30, covering all coastal zones, sounds, and tidal lakes.

Forecasters expect northwest winds of 20–30 knots with gusts up to 35 knots. Waves will reach 4–7 feet across Lake Pontchartrain, Lake Borgne, and the Mississippi Sound, while the open Gulf waters will experience seas of 8–15 feet.

The strong winds follow the passage of a cold front, creating dangerous marine conditions that could capsize or damage smaller vessels and reduce visibility due to blowing spray. Mariners are urged to remain in port, secure equipment, and avoid travel until the warning expires.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve Thursday morning as winds and seas begin to subside.
