BATON ROUGE, La. – A brisk northeast wind pushes across south Louisiana this morning, carrying the salty scent of the Gulf and a preview of changes to come. The skies may be clear now, but clouds are already gathering to the west — signaling a more unsettled stretch just as post-Thanksgiving travelers pack up and hit the road.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans/Baton Rouge, today stays mostly sunny and seasonably cool, with highs near 69°F and gusty winds up to 30 mph along I-10 and coastal routes. By late Saturday night, increasing humidity and a developing warm front will pull clouds and scattered showers into the region.

Rain chances jump to 50% Sunday, with a few isolated thunderstorms possible through the afternoon. While severe weather isn’t expected, slick roads and occasional downpours could slow travel along I-10 and I-12, especially near New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

Temperatures will dip again behind the front, falling back into the 40s by Monday night as a December cold snap spreads southward. Cooler air lingers into midweek before sunshine and milder afternoons return by Wednesday.

This early-winter pattern shift could be the South’s first real taste of December’s chill. Residents should keep jackets handy, secure holiday decorations from gusty winds, and plan extra travel time Sunday as weather conditions change quickly.
