Louisiana – Water creeps onto low-lying roads and parking lots by midday, pushing drivers to reroute across parts of New Orleans as tides rise.
According to the National Weather Service, a Coastal Flood Advisory remains active from 11 a.m. through 8 p.m., with minor flooding expected during peak high tide cycles.
That means trouble spots along Lake Pontchartrain, St. Bernard Parish, and coastal Mississippi could see water covering roads. Even shallow flooding can stall cars quickly. Plan extra time and avoid flood-prone streets like Lakeshore Drive and low sections near Bayou St. John.
For now, skies are partly to mostly sunny with temperatures climbing into the mid-70s. Winds out of the east gust near 25 mph, helping push water inland during high tide.
Conditions improve slightly Friday with dry weather and highs near 77°F. Roads should clear as water recedes, but damp pavement may linger early.
The weekend turns quieter and warmer. Saturday reaches near 80°F with full sun, while Sunday climbs to around 81°F with more sunshine and light winds. Outdoor plans look solid, especially away from flood-prone zones.
Looking ahead, a gradual warming trend builds into early next week. Highs reach the low to mid-80s by Monday and Tuesday with mostly dry conditions. However, meteorologists are watching Gulf moisture return later next week, which could reintroduce rain chances.
If you must travel today, avoid barricaded roads and never drive through standing water. Even a few inches can cause loss of control.
