Louisiana drivers are navigating through a wall of gray this morning as dense fog blankets New Orleans and much of southeast Louisiana. Headlights glow faintly along I-10 and the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, where visibility has dropped to a quarter mile or less in spots.

According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Visibility may fall below 0.25 mile across Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany and surrounding parishes, as well as coastal Mississippi. Low clouds and calm winds are trapping moisture near the surface, creating hazardous travel conditions through the early commute.

Drivers should slow down, use low-beam headlights and leave extra distance between vehicles. Sudden visibility drops are possible on elevated roadways and bridges, especially along I-10, U.S. 90 and the Crescent City Connection. Conditions can change within seconds. Allow extra time if heading out this morning.

Fog gradually lifts late this morning, giving way to mostly cloudy skies and a high near 73 degrees. Showers and thunderstorms develop late tonight and into Sunday, with rain chances near 90%. Breezy south winds could gust above 30 mph Sunday before cooler, drier air arrives Sunday night.

Washington’s Birthday turns mostly sunny with highs near 68. Temperatures rebound into the low 70s Tuesday and upper 70s by midweek. That keeps Louisiana 10 to 20 degrees above average through much of President’s Day week, reinforcing a strong February warm trend.
