New Orleans, LA – Thunderstorms will disrupt much of southeast Louisiana through early next week, with nearly daily rounds of heavy showers threatening outdoor activities and triggering travel delays. After a mostly clear night, rain returns Saturday afternoon, and the National Weather Service warns that scattered thunderstorms could linger from Saturday through at least Tuesday, raising the risk of localized flooding and slick road conditions in New Orleans, Metairie, Gretna, and along major routes like US-90 and I-10.

According to the National Weather Service, the highest rain chances arrive each afternoon, peaking near 80% on Sunday and Monday. Periods of intense rain and gusty winds may cause sudden ponding on roadways, particularly in low-lying neighborhoods. Daytime highs will hover near 88°F with steamy humidity, making conditions uncomfortable even between storms. Residents should have alternate travel routes in mind, avoid driving through flooded streets, and check local advisories before weekend and Monday commutes.

Although the rain could briefly ease after sunset, overnight downpours remain possible, especially Sunday and Monday nights. Prepare for rapidly changing conditions—keep devices charged, secure loose outdoor items, and limit time outside during thunder and lightning.

Thunderstorm threats are expected to persist into Tuesday before a possible midweek break. Additional weather alerts could be issued if rainfall totals climb or flooding develops. Stay tuned for updates as the unsettled pattern continues.
