Chama, NM – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday to 8 a.m. Monday for the Tusas Mountains, including the Chama area, where a significant round of snowfall is expected to create hazardous travel conditions overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, total snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches are forecast across the region, with isolated higher amounts up to 9 inches above 9,000 feet. The heaviest snowfall is expected between midnight and 6 a.m. Monday, when visibility and road traction will be at their worst.

Travel along mountain routes, including U.S. Highway 64 and State Route 17, could be difficult due to snow-covered roads and reduced visibility. Drivers are urged to slow down, use caution, and increase following distance if travel is necessary overnight.

Forecasters say conditions should gradually improve Monday morning, though icy patches may linger in higher elevations. Motorists can check nmroads.com or dial 511 for the latest updates on road closures and conditions.
