Albuquerque, NM – A winter storm is set to impact New Mexico Wednesday and Thursday, bringing heavy snow to the northern mountains and highlands. Residents traveling along the I-25 corridor or to higher elevations should expect snow-covered roads, reduced visibility, and slick conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall totals will range from 1-4 inches in Albuquerque to 8-12 inches in the northern mountains. The heaviest snow is expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with significant travel impacts likely in areas above 7,500 feet.
Temperatures will drop into the mid-20s at night, with daytime highs struggling to surpass the low 40s. Motorists are urged to allow extra travel time, pack winter emergency kits, and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall.
The storm will taper off by Thursday evening, followed by clear and sunny skies through Saturday, with highs near 50°F. Despite improving conditions late week, residents should remain vigilant for icy patches on roads as melting snow refreezes overnight.
