Albuquerque, NM – A winter storm warning remains in effect across much of New Mexico, bringing heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions starting tonight and lasting through Saturday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, snow accumulations will range from 4 to 18 inches in affected areas. Gusty winds reaching up to 50 mph will create dangerous blowing snow, reducing visibility to near-zero levels. Areas like the Sandia and Manzano Mountains, as well as the Northern and Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, are expected to be hardest hit.
Travel disruptions are expected, particularly along Interstates 25, 40, and U.S. 64/87. Reduced traction on roadways, combined with the blowing snow, will make driving treacherous. The NWS urges drivers to take precautions by carrying extra supplies such as flashlights, food, and water, especially if traveling on rural roads.
The winter storm will impact several counties, including Santa Fe, Union, Harding, and Guadalupe, with the most severe conditions expected above 8,500 feet. Residents are advised to stay up to date on the latest weather updates and road conditions via local news or New Mexico’s road condition website.
