Albuquerque, N.M. – Drivers and residents across central New Mexico should prepare for hazardous winds and blowing dust Thursday night, with gusts expected to reach up to 40 mph around Albuquerque. Visibility could drop rapidly after sunset, especially on east-west routes like I-40 and NM-6.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, patchy blowing dust may begin as early as 3 a.m. Thursday and worsen by evening as northwest winds strengthen to 15 to 30 mph, with isolated gusts peaking near 40 mph. The affected area includes Bernalillo County, Sandoval County, and stretches of Valencia and Torrance counties.

Road conditions may deteriorate Thursday night into early Friday, particularly in rural and open areas where loose soil is exposed. Residents should secure outdoor items, limit evening travel if possible, and check updated visibility reports before commuting.

Friday brings a 50% chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms during the afternoon, continuing into the night. Blowing dust and breezy winds may persist, making conditions uncomfortable for outdoor activities.

Wind threats should ease by Saturday morning, but forecasters say additional showers remain possible through the weekend. Stay tuned to local advisories as updated alerts may be issued.
