Albuquerque, N.M. – Rain and thunderstorms could disrupt weekend plans across central New Mexico, with the highest chances for storms expected Saturday afternoon through Sunday night. The National Weather Service warns of locally heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and possible thunder that could slow travel and affect outdoor events.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, Saturday carries a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Showers increase to 80 percent Saturday night into Sunday, when storms remain likely throughout the day before tapering late Sunday night. Winds from the southeast could reach 10 mph, adding to storm development.

Residents in Albuquerque and surrounding Bernalillo County should prepare for slick roads and low visibility during downpours, especially along I-25 and I-40. Outdoor gatherings, including weekend balloon flights and hiking excursions in the Sandia Mountains, may face cancellations or delays due to lightning and rainfall.

Conditions are expected to improve early next week, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s returning Monday. Storm chances diminish after the weekend, leaving behind clearer, calmer weather.
