Albuquerque, NM – A significant warming trend is underway in New Mexico, with temperatures soaring to near-record highs by Saturday. The National Weather Service forecasts temperatures to reach well above normal across northern and central New Mexico.

By Friday, widespread record-high temperatures are expected, with many cities experiencing highs in the 80s. The hot temperatures, coupled with strong winds, will lead to a high risk of rapid wildfire spread over the weekend, especially on Sunday when winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

Fire officials are urging residents to exercise extreme caution. The public is advised to avoid open flames, keep vehicles off dry grass, and discard cigarettes properly to minimize the risk of fire outbreaks.

The warm conditions will continue into early next week, but a cooldown is expected by Tuesday, with more seasonal temperatures returning by mid-April.
